Anaerobic Digestion

Purpose

After all the solids from the various settling Clarifiers are collected, they are pumped into primary digester #1. The reason that the process is called anaerobic is because the entire process takes place in the absence of oxygen. City of Rochester Wastewater Treatment Facility has 2 digesters. One primary digesters and a secondary digester. The primary digester is heated to 95 degrees Fahrenheit to 118 degrees Fahrenheit and is always being recirculated, where the secondary digester is unheated and is not being recirculated.
